This recruitment will be used to fill openings in Wildflower Court, Medical/Surgical, and the Same Day Care departments.

Job Summary:

The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse I (LPN I) is to provide direct nursing care to patients/residents in accordance with current Alaska Board of Nursing Regulations.

What You Will Do:

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Observes changes in a patient’s and/or resident’s condition and reports to RN. 
• Considers domestic violence when performing nursing observations.
• Documents all pertinent observations and care provided using only approved hospital abbreviations. Documentation is consistently free of errors, omissions, and inconsistencies and is completed within the accepted time frames.
• Plans and manages a patient’s and/or resident’s care according to each patient’s established plan of care.
• Able to adapt workload to unexpected changes in a patient’s and/or resident’s status, unit changes, or emergencies; prioritizes patient care activities.
• Recognizes changes in a patient’s and/or resident’s condition that require immediate intervention, takes necessary immediate action and summons assistance.
• Offers assistance when a patient and/or resident requires emergency care, as the need arises.
• Remains calm & responds in an organized fashion throughout emergency.
• Accurately administers medications to patients and/or residents.
• Accurately charts all medications administered in accordance with Departmental Policies and Procedures.
• Administers treatments according to Policy and Procedure, and scope of practice, after training and competencies are met.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications for the Job:

Licensed Practical Nurse I (LPN I)

• Education:Graduate of an accredited school of practical/vocational nursing.

• Experience: Must remain at this level for a minimum of 6 months. Must advance to an LPN II within one year.

• License(s):Valid LPN license issued by the State of Alaska (current license must be maintained throughout term of employment).

• Certification(s):Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or within 30 days of hire. BRH approved behavioral emergency response and de-escalation training within three (3) months of hire.

Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
